Continental Casualty filed for ICSID arbitration over the failure by Argentina to meet international law standards of treatment, contractual and treaty obligations to the local subsidiary of an American financial services provider.

On February 22 2005, the ICSID Tribunal overturned Argentina's jurisdictional objections and ordered the case to be heard. The merits hearing was held in November 2006.
